Lessons Tailored To You

I am a composer, songwriter and musician based in Surrey, creating work for a wide variety of mediums including games, film, and concert hall. I hold a MMus in Composition for Screen with distinction from the Royal College of Music and a first class BMus from the University of Birmingham.

I offer support tailored to each student’s goals including (but not limited to!) these common areas:

  • Music Theory grades
  • GCSE and A Level composition
  • First time composing for picture or games
  • Logic Pro for composers
  • Preparing scores and parts
  • Orchestration

My Approach

I believe that what makes the best musicians is loving what they do. I focus on finding what unlocks the self-motivation that pushes students to practice because they enjoy it.

I aim to balance leaning into what already drives a student to study music with encouraging them outside of their comfort zone where they can grow. I aim to stay connected to the music that students love wherever possible, using this as reference and example material.

Why Do I Teach?

There are so many things I’d never have tried if a teacher hadn’t guided me to them and I still reference many of those exercises and principles in my work today.

Every new skill we learn stays with us for life, and I love being able to watch a student start to notice the progress they’ve made. Some take these skills forward into a lifelong pursuit of music making, but even those that don’t will carry those skills forward into everything they do.

Teaching Experience

I previously worked with a local music school for a number of years providing 1-1 lessons and group teaching. I taught 1-1 piano, keyboard, ukulele and vocals to both children and adults. With some students this included composition and songwriting skills.

I led group lessons in keyboard and vocals arranging and learning songs to play together with other instrumental students as a band in the same session. We covered introductions to music notation, harmony and music theory through fun songs. I led a ukulele and drum group which had a similar learn-and-play structure and which introduced 4-8 year olds to group music-making, music theory and basic rhythm notation as well as instrument skills.

On my undergraduate I studied Music Education which included a short placement in a school observing classroom music lessons. This and my own experience being both a student and a teacher at times over the last 10 years or so has taught me a lot about teaching and the value of considered, intentional, interest-led learning.

I briefly worked with the Rockschool grade system while teaching at the local music school and followed ABRSM grades in my own piano, vocal and theory lessons prior to my undergraduate degree.

Biography

I am a composer, songwriter, musician and teacher based in Surrey. My recent work includes composing soundtracks for short films and animations across a range of genres, and I am currently working on writing, recording and implementing the original soundtrack for an indie video game expected to release in 2027.

I came to composing through my background in songwriting and rock bands, and have since studied composition, orchestration, 18th century counterpoint, classical composition, vocal production and various instruments to support my work.

I graduated from a Master’s in Composition for Screen (Distinction) from the Royal College of Music in 2025 where I was an H R Taylor Charitable Trust Scholar. I also hold a Bachelor of Music degree (first class hons) from the University of Birmingham, where I was awarded the the Roland Gregory Prize and the COMPASS Prize for Composition in association with Birmingham Contemporary Music Group.
